On June 26th Alfred Robert Koch Jr. passed peacefully in his sleep at home in Douglaston, New York. He was 96 years old. Beloved husband of Violetta Mascia Koch for 72 years. Devoted father to Madeline, Marcia Ann and Alfred Robert Koch III. Loving father-in-law to Monique Koch. Cherished grandfather to Alexander and Olivia Koch. He is survived by his brothers Henry and Richard Koch. He was born in Long Island City, New York on October 31, 1923 and moved to Flushing with his parents Alfred Robert Koch, Sr. and Madeline Bicket Koch. Two brothers, Edward and Robert Koch predeceased him. He was an excellent sailor and learned to sail during summers spent in Mattituck. His education was interrupted when he enlisted in the United State Army on September 8, 1943. He served with the 358th Harbor Craft Company in the European Theater of Operations. He held the rank of corporal. He received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the World War I Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 9, 1946. He returned to Colgate University in September 1946 and graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry in May 1947. Alfred and Violetta were married on September 26, 1948 at St. Andrew Avellino Roman Catholic Church in Flushing and lived in Long Island City. In 1951 they moved to Bayside, and subsequently moved to Douglaston where they lived until he passed. He loved to sail and would often take his dog Sam out with him. He loved reading and photography, and being outdoors playing water sports, skiing, golfing and gardening. He and Violetta would play Bridge with friends, host dinner parties, walk and sail together. They loved family. He was a self-employed insurance broker.

The service will be held at Flushing Cemetery on July 1st at 1:30 p.m. It will be private. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to charity in his memory.
